Porto, Christmas With Northern Lights

Porto, draped in its winter Pelisse, wears its northernness with panache for the Christmas season. Pastel daylights borrowed from Scandinavian skies, independent shop windows along Rua Miguel Bombarda that feel ‘Berliners', and seagulls with aristocratic altitude, snatch bread crump with the swagger of those who've never worked for a living. Perhaps the real protagonist of Porto is architecture. Its gracile houses mirror the elegant coherence of Antwerp or Copenhagen, while the large variety of styles at play echoes the city's strategic appetite for trade paired with aesthetics.
